Do you regret getting a dog and if yes why?
Main Post:
I’m considering getting a dog but I’m worried I’ll regret it for several reasons. Doing my due diligence and therefore asking without any judgement if anyone regrets their decision to get a dog

I love my dog so much.
Main Post:
I just really wanted to say I love my dog so much. I've never had a dog of my own until last May. I've been around dogs that I have adored and I'm happy to have my little baby.
I just didn't realized how much I would love her! I have cried so many times just looking at her sleep or when does anything cute. I don't think I've ever felt a love so strong like this. I love you Maple! ♥

Should I get a dog for my dog?
Main Post:
Context: I am in my first trimester with our first baby. I'm married, husband has a traveling job and is only home on the weekends. We own a home with a 4 acre yard and a large pond and are in the process of fencing in the whole yard (which will be a game changer for my wild Golden). We have an 11 year old Pom and an almost 6 year old Golden. The Pom is not a dog person and does not like to play. My Golden is very high energy and loves to play. She will try to play with the Pom and he wants nothing to do with it. She plays with us, but I apparantly don't play like a dog cuz she gets bored with whatever I'm doing, so I go sit on the couch, then she brings me a new toy. I try to play with her but she seems very uninterested in the way I'm playing with her. She seems very unfulfilled with her play time. I feel like she would love to have a dog to be able to rough house and full-out play with. She's big and strong so when I try to get down and wrestle with her I end up bruised to hell all over my arms. She plays like a dog, with her mouth, but that hurts human limbs 😅 But.. when she's had play dates with other dogs she's mostly uninterested in them and doesn't want to play with them much if at all. I don't know if that means she really DOESN'T want to play with dogs, or if she just needs more time with them and if it was her house-mate maybe she would warm up and love to play with them. She does occasionally try to play with the Pom but he wants absolutely no part of it. She has kind-of played with certain dogs before. She seems to like my nephews corgi-aussie mix and will play with him. But we have a friend with two huskies and she doesn't much like to play with them. She used to LOVE his first husky when they were both young. Now she will watch his dogs play with each other and will occasionally try to get in on it then immediately be like "never mind, no thank you".
At face value it seems like a bad idea to get another dog, bringing a baby into the home soon and with her seeming lukewarm on playing with dogs a lot of the time. But she very much needs more play time, and it seems she doesn't really get that into how I play with her. But I dont know any other way to play with her that she would enjoy more. I also feel like once I'm busy with a baby it would be really helpful for her and I both if she had another dog to play with so im not feeling guilty when I'm feeding or dealing with the baby and she's bringing me a toy. But that's IF she would actually play with the other dog. I feel like that's one of those things where I won't know unless we get anther dog and see how she takes to them, but is it worth getting a third dog (plus a baby, plus the 4 chickens I just got 😅) as a "hmm will this enrich her life or will she hate it". I want her to have the fullest happiest life ever. If that means getting her a dog I 100% will. It just seems like such a "this could be great or horrible" type thing 😬
Thoughts?
Top Comment: No... getting a new dog should never be for the existing animals in your home. There's no guarantee they'll be fast friends and you still need to meet everyone's needs. The goal in a multi pet home is to have low conflict and harmony. If they all get along that is just a bonus.
